Joshua Brancaleone, Flute is a Doctor of Musical Arts student at James Madison University studying with Dr. Beth Chandler Cahill. He earned a Master of Music from James Madison University and a Bachelor of Music from Eastern Michigan University where he studied with Dr. Julie Stone. As an emerging artist, he has performed internationally in the United States, Canada, and Eastern Europe.
As a student, Joshua has had the honor of playing for world renowned flutists such as Valerie Coleman, Dita Krenberga, Sharon Sparrow, Jeff Zook, and more. Joshua has performed as principal flute with a variety of ensembles at James Madison University, Eastern Michigan University, and has also performed as a guest with The Rockbridge Symphony and Clemson University Orchestra. As a principal player, Joshua’s performance highlights include Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8, Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis, Prokofiev’s Cinderella and Classical Symphony, Stravinsky’s The Firebird, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, and more. Joshua is a founding member of The Bluestone Contemporary Ensemble, a group dedicated to the performance, collaboration, and premiering of new music by living composers. The Bluestone Contemporary Ensemble is best known for participating in the Sofia Art and Music Festival hosted by Global Arts United LLC at Bulgaria Hall in Sofia, Bulgaria.
In addition to his roles as a student and performer, Joshua has served in a number of leadership positions including Convention Director for The Flute Society of Washington’s Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention, President and Vice President of the JMU Flute Club, Treasurer of Eastern Michigan University’s Mu Phi Epsilon, Epsilon Lambda chapter, and Convention Intern for the 53rd Annual National Flute Association Convention in San Antonio, Texas.
Joshua is Co-Owner of Brancaleone Music Studio in Harrisonburg, Virginia and teaches private flute lessons for all ages and levels. In his free time, Joshua enjoys being with friends and family, cooking, baking, PC gaming, and spending time with his husband and their Shiba Inu, Chai.
